Throughout history many cultures have told stories about a mythical firebird, and most often this fantastical creature becomes the object of a hero's journey.  Last year I saw a portion of Stravinsky's ballet Firebird and was struck by it's fervid music and magical choreography.  Inspired by my husband Brad's fiery nature and his journey to learn flamenco guitar, I decided to sculpt a firebird as his keepsake image.  I based my design on an 18th century textile decorated with colorful embroidered birds of paradise (Persian firebirds).
